In all of Division-1a (I still refused to use the new terminology), there are 15 teams who are still undefeated. Of all of those teams, there are none from the Big East, Pac-10, or ACC which shouldn’t surprise any of use since those conference are considered the weaker ones where there is more of a chance for teams to knock off one another.
In that list of 15, there are a few that surprise me. The one that jumps off the page right away has to be Vanderbilt. You have to hand it to Vandy, beating Auburn 14-13 over the weekend and now one has too look at them as a serious contender in the SEC East. They are one win away from bowl eligibility, and with a win over South Carolina, and Tennessee struggling, the worst that they will finish is third in the SEC East.
The other surprise undefeated team has to be the Northwestern Wildcats. Pat Fitzgerald has this team playing with fire and passion. They have two tough games coming up against Michigan State and Purdue, but fortunately for the Wildcats, both of them are home. They’ll get to find out good their rush defense is as they try to stop the Spartans Javon Ringer.
In the Non-BCS ranks, there are still quite a few teams holding out hope to get to the BCS Bowl berth. If I were to rank the Non-BCS School chances I would have to go with 1) BYU, 2) Utah, 3) Boise State, 4) Tulsa, and 5) Ball State. Of course the BYU and Utah game at the end of the year will be for the Mountain West title and possibly a BCS Bowl berth.
The following is a list of all of the undefeated teams: Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Penn State, Tulsa, Ball State, Utah, BYU, Vanderbilt, Alabama, LSU, and Boise State.
