Notre Dame trailed by 16 points heading into the 4th quarter against Michigan State, but they pulled off one of the best comebacks of 2006 to win the game 40-37 in East Lansing. That loss cemented the fate of former Spartan coach John L. Smith and it sent the Spartans on a downward spiral like the Michigan meltdown did the year before.
