The Michigan State Athletic Office has a press conference scheduled for 1:30pm in which they will annouce the firing of head football coach John L. Smith. It is rumored that assistant coach Chris Smeland will be named interm coach for the rest of the year.

EDIT: According to ESPN, the university will buy out the remaining two years on his contract, which will be somewhere between $3.2 million and $4 million. And they make no mention of a successor but they are reporting he will stay till the end of the year.
